History of Ikarameppurathu Kudumbayogam

The ancient Nazarani Christians of Kerala were attracted to the way of Christ by the evangelization of St:Thomas, a disciple of Jesus Christ. We can be proud that our ancestors are their successors. When Christ's disciple St: Thomas came to preach the gospel in Kodungallur, there were four families who first came to Christianity. They are Pakalomattom, Kalikavu, Kalli and Shankarapuri. Among them our ancestors were part of the Pakalomattom family. We can understand authentically from historical books that the responsibility of spiritual leadership of the church was vested in the Pakalomattom family. Due to various circumstances, those four families were scattered to many places. The ancestors of the Pakalomattom family who migrated to Kuravilangad region built a church there with the help of other families like Shankarapuri, Kalikavu and Kalli and held religious service there. Later, for various reasons, the family members of Pakalomatam were scattered from Kuravilangad area to various places.

The progenitor of our Ikarameppurathu family was Geevarghese migrated to Vaipur in A.D 1750 & settled near the banks of river Manimala, village called vaipur under the family name THURAYIL and this area belonged to Edappally swaroopam (Dynasty), Our forefather Gevarghese had three sons. His eldest son Geevarghese Ninan married from Changanassery.and settled near Mammoodu and started another family branch. Geevarghese's youngest son Geevarghese Mathan stayed with the family in Vaipur Thurayil and continued his life there. He had two daughters. Their family name of Thurayil is still preserved today.

Geevarghese's second son Geevarghese Geevarghese married Rahelamma, daughter of Orupramannil Mathan, of Vanchitra Theverthundiyil in keezhvaipur. Geevarghese Geevarghese moved from vaipur to keezvaipur after his marriage and brought the Thazhathedathu "Pandaram "land near orupramannil Tharavadu.varghese Geevarghese, had two sons, Geevarghese Ikarameppu- rathu & Mathan Thazhathedathu, and two daughters. One daughter was married into the Mallappally Pannikuzhi family and the other daughter got married into Maruthukunnel family of Thuruthicadu. Geevarghese Geevarghese's eldest son Geevarghese Ikarameppurathu bought the land near the upper side of the Ikara Nair homestead (Mallappally old Suryani church) around A. D.1800. His descendants started the Ranni & Wayanad Shakha family branch, Geevarghese Geevarghese's Younger son Mathen Thazhathedathu descendants started Mallappally Paduvel Shakha & Pampady Shakha.
